No one plans to be here..alone on this cliff,
With no other parent..the fear leaves you stiff,
At first there’s the trials..the talks with the ex,
They sometimes go well..but you may just get nix.
No visits for your little one..no support for you,
You sit head in hands..what am I to do,
But gather yourself for your new life awaits,
Those big eyes look up..you have a clean slate.
See this as a chance to do things your own way,
To write on their image each & every day,
You ARE the Lighthouse..their compass in life,
Their first port of call in times of strife.
Yes, this will be as hard as it gets,
But you CAN do this.. just with some regrets,
Have I done this right..was it for the best,
Make no mistake..you are truly blessed.
No one is perfect & you’re solo..exposed,
So stand up & guide them..be open, not closed,
Flexible to change..adaptable but strong,
For this time is protracted but never that long.
The years will pass but your light will shine,
Your child will grow & you’ll both be fine,
The waves will lash you..the lightning will burn,
But the Lighthouse still stands & you both will learn.
Stay calm in the storm & be bold through your fears,
You will do your job well so dry all those tears,
Yes, you’re alone, but actually not,
You’re adored by your child, you’re all that they’ve got.
Chin up, shoulders back, don’t wallow in grief
You shine your light brightly to avoid that reef.

What a beautiful piece of writing..going it solo with kids can be so tough..but I hope you have carm crystal clear waters ahead..a stunning write..from one solo voyager to another..ELiza Keating
